The Qingdao Huashida Steel Pipe External Surface Rust Removal and Anti-Corrosion Coating Line Equipment is designed to remove rust, mill scale and contaminants from the external surface of steel pipes, creating an anchor pattern for strong coating adhesion ; apply multi-layer anti-corrosion coatings such as FBE, 2LPE/3LPE or 3PE, which can extend the pipe's service life from a few years up to 50 years ; carry out the entire process-cleaning, heating, coating, curing and inspection-in one continuous, automated production line, ensuring uniform thickness and compliance with international standards .
The Qingdao Huashida Steel Pipe External Surface Rust Removal and Anti-Corrosion Coating Line Equipment guarantees coating uniformity through the following integrated technologies and process controls: 1.Closed-Loop Speed Control A displacement closed-loop system based on HMI + PLC continuously monitors and adjusts the steel pipe's advance speed using laser displacement sensors. This keeps the pipe's travel speed constant, eliminating the ±30 % thickness variation typical of open-loop systems and reducing it to about ±10 % . 2.High-Precision Electrostatic Spraying The line employs high-voltage electrostatic spray guns (≈ 100 kV) combined with fluidized-bed powder supply. This delivers an even cloud of epoxy powder that is uniformly attracted to the grounded pipe surface, ensuring a consistent coating thickness regardless of pipe ovality or minor diameter changes . 3.In-Line Thickness Gauging & Feedback After spraying, non-contact ultrasonic or eddy-current thickness gauges scan the full pipe circumference. Real-time data are fed back to the PLC, which automatically adjusts gun voltage, powder flow and conveyor speed to correct any deviations . 4.Controlled Pre-Heat Temperature Medium-frequency induction heaters raise the pipe surface to the exact target temperature (typically 180 - 230 °C for FBE). Uniform heating guarantees even powder gel time and flow, preventing thick or thin spots . 5.Synchronised Gun & Pipe Motion For large-diameter or curved pipes, a coaxial rotating winding device keeps the spray guns at a constant stand-off distance and relative speed, maintaining uniform coverage over elbows or reducers . Together, these measures ensure that every square centimetre of the pipe receives a coating thickness within ±10 % of specification, meeting ISO 21809, DIN 30670 or customer-specific requirements.
Qingdao Huashida's line copes with **any diameter from Φ48 mm up to Φ2 500 mm (and even 4 200 mm on the large-pipe version)** through a set of quick-change, self-centering modules:
1. Expandable-centre roller conveyors • Driven rollers whose centres open/close hydraulically in seconds, so the pipe axis always remains on the same height and centre-line regardless of OD . • A single operator can change sizes in < 3 min; no manual shimming or spacer blocks.
2. Variable-blast rooms & spray booths • The shot-blast chamber has vertically and horizontally adjustable blast wheels; wheel positions follow the new diameter automatically after the operator keys it into the HMI . • The epoxy-powder spray ring uses motorised telescopic arms that keep the gun-to-surface distance constant (≈ 150 mm) for pipes from 48 mm to 2 500 mm.
3. Induction-heating coil sizing • Medium-frequency coils are built in split, spring-loaded segments; the coil diameter is motor-adjusted to sit 20-30 mm clear of the new pipe surface, ensuring uniform pre-heat .
4. Software recipe management • Once a pipe spec (diameter, wall, coating type) is selected, the PLC downloads the matching roller spacing, blast-wheel angle, gun pattern, line speed and coil power settings, guaranteeing repeatability.
Thus the same production line can run small 2-inch line pipe today and 100-inch offshore trunk pipe tomorrow without mechanical re-builds, only parameter recall and a quick roller/coil adjustment .
